AP 3-D Art and Design
← Back to AP PreparationCourse scope
AP 3-D Art and Design explores the relationships between volume, space, material and form through sculpture, ceramics, architectural models and similar three-dimensional work.
Exam and assessment structure
A digital portfolio is assessed instead of a written exam. The Sustained Investigation section is worth 60% and includes 15 images together with written evidence explaining the making process. The Selected Works section is worth 40%; each of five works is shown from two views with related descriptions. All portfolio components are submitted by 7 May 2027 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The course focuses on how an idea develops through material and space as much as on technical skill.
