AP African American Studies
← Back to AP PreparationCourse scope
AP African American Studies examines the history, culture and experiences of African Americans through sources from different disciplines. Along with source analysis and evidence-based interpretation, the course includes conducting individual research.
Exam and assessment structure
The digital exam on 6 May 2027 lasts 2 hours 45 minutes and consists of 60 multiple-choice questions, a verification question about the individual project, 3 short-answer questions and a document-based question. The individual research project and presentation completed during the year also count toward the overall assessment. Preparation therefore covers developing a research question, selecting sources and presenting findings, together with the exam topics.
