AP Calculus AB
← Back to AP PreparationCourse scope
AP Calculus AB covers limits and continuity, derivatives, integrals and their applications at an introductory university level. Students learn to interpret rates of change, solve optimisation problems and use integrals to calculate areas and volumes.
Exam and assessment structure
The exam on 10 May 2027 lasts 3 hours 10 minutes and consists of 42 multiple-choice and 6 free-response questions. The two sections carry equal weight, and calculator use varies by part. In the hybrid format, questions are viewed in Bluebook and free-response answers are written on paper. Students cannot take both the Calculus AB and Calculus BC exams in the same year.
Preparation at Youprep Studio
In AP Calculus AB preparation we start by assessing knowledge of functions and algebraic skills. We cover limits, derivatives and integrals by connecting graphical, tabular and algebraic representations. Alongside multiple-choice questions, we work on justification, correct notation and interpreting results in context in free-response solutions. Timed practice and review help the student get used to the exam format.
