AP Drawing
← Back to AP PreparationCourse scope
AP Drawing focuses on developing a personal visual language through line, mark-making, surface, space, light and shade, and composition. Drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed-media work may be used.
Exam and assessment structure
At the end of the course a digital portfolio is submitted instead of a written exam: Sustained Investigation, with 15 images and written descriptions, is worth 60%, and Selected Works, with images and descriptions of five selected works, 40%. The three portfolio components are completed by 7 May 2027 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Assessment values not only the finished pieces but also the student experimenting and developing their work in line with their inquiry question.

We carry out topic work together with the relevant question and assessment types, and develop the student’s ability to apply knowledge and justify answers. We track progress with practice suited to the course structure and regular review, and update the study plan for the target exam session.
