AP Human Geography examines how people use the Earth and how societies are organised in space. Through topics such as population and migration, culture, political organisation, agriculture, urbanisation and economic development, it builds skills in reading maps and geographic data.
Exam and assessment structure
The exam on 3 May 2027 lasts 2 hours 15 minutes and is taken entirely in Bluebook. There are 60 minutes for 60 multiple-choice questions and 75 minutes for 3 free-response questions; the two sections are weighted equally. Besides recognising concepts, the exam requires explaining geographic relationships using maps, images and data.
