← Back to AP PreparationCourse scope
AP Microeconomics examines the decisions of consumers and firms, how prices form in markets and how resources are allocated. Supply and demand, production costs, types of competition, factor markets and market failures are the core topics.
Exam and assessment structure
The exam on 4 May 2027 lasts 2 hours 10 minutes and consists of 60 multiple-choice questions and 3 free-response questions (one long and two short). The multiple-choice section is worth about two-thirds and the free-response section about one-third. In the hybrid digital exam, free-response answers are written on paper. Students are expected to support economic reasoning with graphs and, where needed, calculations.
