AP Research

Course scope

AP Research allows students to develop their own research question and carry out an independent academic study over a full year. Choosing a research method, evaluating sources, analysing findings and academic integrity are core skills.

Exam and assessment structure

There is no written AP exam at the end of this course. 75% of the assessment is a 4,000–5,000-word academic paper and 25% is a 15–20-minute presentation and oral defence. The deadline for digital submission of the paper is 30 April 2027 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Part of AP Capstone, the course focuses on the student going beyond passing on existing knowledge to develop a methodical research process.

Preparation at Youprep Studio

In this course we start preparation by assessing the student’s prior knowledge and needs. We carry out topic work together with the relevant question and assessment types, and develop the student’s ability to apply knowledge and justify answers. We track progress with practice suited to the course structure and regular review, and update the study plan for the target exam session.
