IB Biology SL ve HL

← Back to IB Preparation

Course scope

IB Biology is an experimental science that studies living systems from the molecular level to ecosystems. Cells, heredity, evolution and interactions between organisms are covered together with data analysis and scientific inquiry.

Exam and assessment structure

At SL and HL, assessment consists of Paper 1, with multiple-choice and data-based questions, and Paper 2, with short and extended responses; HL extends in scope and depth. External exams make up 80% of the total grade. A scientific investigation report based on the student’s own research question is worth 20%. Subject knowledge, experimental thinking and explaining conclusions with evidence are thus assessed together.

Preparation at Youprep Studio

In this subject we work according to the student’s SL or HL level, exam year and the program followed at school. We close topic gaps and work on using knowledge in the relevant assessment formats and justifying answers. We set study priorities with the school’s exam and submission calendar in mind, and organise review and practice around the student’s progress.

Current exam information

May and November sessions; exact days and times are confirmed with the school’s IB coordinator.
