IB Chemistry SL ve HL

← Back to IB Preparation

Course scope

IB Chemistry studies the structure of matter and chemical reactions around the concepts of structure and reactivity. Topics such as bonding, energy, reaction rates and equilibrium are linked to experimental data; HL covers broader and deeper content.

Exam and assessment structure

In the assessment, Paper 1 covers data and experiment interpretation with multiple-choice questions, and Paper 2 short and extended responses. External exams make up 80% of the grade and the student’s independent scientific investigation report 20%. The subject combines chemical calculation with conceptual explanation and the evaluation of laboratory results; explaining why a result occurs matters as much as reaching it.

Preparation at Youprep Studio

In this subject we work according to the student’s SL or HL level, exam year and the program followed at school. We close topic gaps and work on using knowledge in the relevant assessment formats and justifying answers. We set study priorities with the school’s exam and submission calendar in mind, and organise review and practice around the student’s progress.

Current exam information

May and November sessions; exact days and times are confirmed with the school’s IB coordinator.
