IB Language B SL ve HL

Course scope

IB Language B is designed for students who have previously studied the target language, to develop their reading, listening, writing and speaking skills. Options such as English B, French B, German B and Spanish B vary depending on the languages the school offers.

Exam and assessment structure

In the 2027 structure, Paper 1 assesses written production and Paper 2 listening and reading comprehension; an individual oral also counts toward the assessment. The SL oral is based on a visual stimulus, while the HL oral starts from a passage from the literary works studied. HL students study two literary works in the target language. The subject combines grammar with cultural awareness and effective communication in different contexts.

Preparation at Youprep Studio

In this subject we work according to the student’s SL or HL level, exam year and the program followed at school. We close topic gaps and work on using knowledge in the relevant assessment formats and justifying answers. We set study priorities with the school’s exam and submission calendar in mind, and organise review and practice around the student’s progress.
