IB Literature and Performance SL

← Back to IB Preparation

Course scope

IB Literature and Performance is an interdisciplinary subject offered only at SL that combines literary text analysis with stage practice. Students explore how a text can take on new meanings as it moves from written narrative to performance.

Exam and assessment structure

The current assessment consists of Paper 1, a comparative essay on two works; a written assignment analysing staging choices; and a performance that turns a literary text into theatre, together with an individual oral. Paper 1 and the written assignment are each worth 30%, and the performance and oral component 40%. The subject develops critical reading, creative interpretation and expression together.

Preparation at Youprep Studio

In this subject we work according to the student’s SL or HL level, exam year and the program followed at school. We close topic gaps and work on using knowledge in the relevant assessment formats and justifying answers. We set study priorities with the school’s exam and submission calendar in mind, and organise review and practice around the student’s progress.

Current exam information

May and November sessions; exact days and times are confirmed with the school’s IB coordinator.
