IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL
← Back to IB PreparationCourse scope
IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL treats mathematics in a more abstract and comprehensive way, focusing on analytical thinking, mathematical reasoning and multi-step problem solving. The topics in SL are deepened with HL content.
Exam and assessment structure
In the 2027 exam structure, the calculator-free Paper 1 and the calculator Paper 2 each last two hours and are each worth 30%. Paper 3, which allows a calculator and consists of two extended problem-solving questions, lasts one hour and is worth 20%. The mathematical exploration makes up the remaining 20%. Subject choice should be considered alongside the student’s mathematical preparation and the entry requirements of the target program.
Preparation at Youprep Studio
In IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL we strengthen the foundation in algebra, functions and mathematical reasoning. We focus on building a solution plan for multi-step problems, choosing the right method and evaluating results. We combine calculator-free and technology-supported work, and care about the student presenting solutions clearly. We shape the preparation plan around the school’s pace and the target exam session.
