IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL
← Back to IB PreparationCourse scope
IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL focuses on using mathematics to explain real-life situations and draw meaning from data. Mathematical modelling, statistics, functions and the use of technology are distinctive features of the course.
Exam and assessment structure
In the 2027 assessment, Paper 1 consists of short-response and Paper 2 of extended questions; each lasts 90 minutes and is worth 40%. Technology may be used in both exams. The student’s independent exploration makes up 20% of the grade. Beyond calculation, the course develops the ability to judge whether a model is appropriate, what the results mean and the context of mathematical findings.
Preparation at Youprep Studio
In this subject we work according to the student’s SL or HL level, exam year and the program followed at school. We close topic gaps and work on using knowledge in the relevant assessment formats and justifying answers. We set study priorities with the school’s exam and submission calendar in mind, and organise review and practice around the student’s progress.
