IB Social and Cultural Anthropology SL ve HL

← Back to IB Preparation

Course scope

IB Social and Cultural Anthropology aims to understand people’s ways of life, values and social relationships by comparing societies and cultures. Students examine ethnographic examples to question cultural assumptions and interpret social change.

Exam and assessment structure

At SL and HL, Paper 1 is based on anthropological texts and concepts, and Paper 2 on analyses developed through ethnographic studies. There is also internal work involving fieldwork and critical thinking; this component is worth 20% at SL and 25% at HL. At HL the scope of the research and the analytical expectations widen. While explaining human diversity, the subject teaches attention to evidence and research ethics.

Preparation at Youprep Studio

In this subject we work according to the student’s SL or HL level, exam year and the program followed at school. We close topic gaps and work on using knowledge in the relevant assessment formats and justifying answers. We set study priorities with the school’s exam and submission calendar in mind, and organise review and practice around the student’s progress.

Current exam information

May and November sessions; exact days and times are confirmed with the school’s IB coordinator.
