IB World Religions SL

← Back to IB Preparation

Course scope

IB World Religions examines the beliefs and practices of different religions with an academic, comparative and respectful approach. Offered only at SL, the subject aims to understand how religious traditions relate to individuals’ lives and to societies.

Exam and assessment structure

Assessment consists of Paper 1 with source-based questions, Paper 2 with thematic essays, and a written analysis based on independent research. The research work makes up 25% of the total grade. The World Religions program applies to the 2027 exam; Religion and Societies, which will replace this subject, is first assessed in 2029. The student needs to prepare with content that matches their exam year.

Preparation at Youprep Studio

In this subject we work according to the student’s SL or HL level, exam year and the program followed at school. We close topic gaps and work on using knowledge in the relevant assessment formats and justifying answers. We set study priorities with the school’s exam and submission calendar in mind, and organise review and practice around the student’s progress.

Current exam information

May and November sessions; exact days and times are confirmed with the school’s IB coordinator.
